I am making progress on my mission to re-do my BrowserBooks … slowly but surely (hey, it worked for the tortoise in his race against the hare).

The book, Joe Tilden’s Recipes For Epicures, was originally published around 1907 and is available in the Public Domain. I have made it available as a BrowserBook.

These recipes are NOT written like the recipes of today. There are a good number of them that I’m not sure that I could follow. But I have read them all, and have gleaned quite a few goodies that I DO USE in my own Kitchen Fun Cooking Adventures - maybe you will too.

For most of my life, I have believed in the “Power Of Thought” - long before The Secret made its big splash on the public scene.

While I don’t totally buy into the “we create our own reality” line of thinking, how and what we think can be very powerful.

How We Think and What We Think can be powerful forces for shaping the world we live in.

I would like to propose a mental exercise. Do you think that it is possible for YOU to change the way you look at some particular situation? Do you wonder, “if enough people could change their way of thinking, could it make a difference in the world - could we collectively change the world for the better”?

Try this:

• Visualize the things your body needs to survive - air, food, and water. Try to think of the ways in which your body utilizes these necessities to sustain the miracle of life. It is also generally accepted that we need clothing and shelter in order to survive.

• See if you can get a mental picture of these five requirements: air, food, water, clothing and shelter. First, try to paint a mental picture of each of them - see how YOU use them to live. Think of the process by which the body puts to use air, food, and water. Imagine how you use clothing and shelter to enhance your life.

• Now, what thought processes did you use to see YOURSELF in regards to the necessities of life?

• Use those same processes to see someone from another part of the world, in the same way, needing the same things to live. If you can, try to visualize someone from a part of the world that you might otherwise think of as an “enemy” (I’m not sure I like that word) needing and using those same five necessities.

• Can you see how you can use your thoughts to realize that EVERYONE in the world has some basic needs?

• Do you think that we ALL have a right to do our best to meet those needs? Allow yourself to ponder this question several times over many days.

• Encourage a few friends or acquaintances to accept this challenge (thought power increases as more people have similar thoughts).
